- ‘Fred Talk’ Green Words
- Practise writing your letter shapes. Don’t forget to start in the correct place. If you feel your child is finding pencil, control & grip challenging use larger sheets of paper, the bigger the better!
- Revise Phase 2 Tricky words – I, no, the, to, go, into
- Phase 3 Tricky Words – he, she, we, me, be, was, you, they, all, are, my, her
If your child has not mastered blending (Fred Talking) yet I would suggest that you do a few minutes every day this will help to build your child’s confidence and in turn will enable them to succeed!
- Make words using our sounds with magnetic letters/ Alphablocks etc.
- Print off/write out CVC words for your child to ‘Fred Talk’
The children are encouraged to write a simple sentence e.g. 'The cat is on the mat.'. Look at our 'Writing Checklist' below to help with writing at home.
- ‘the’ is a tricky word so you cannot sound it out.
- ‘The’ needs a capital letter as it is at the beginning of the sentence.
- cat, is, on, mat – can be written using ‘Fred Fingers’.
- Don’t forget to put a finger space in between each word.
- If you get to the end of the line and there is not enough room for the next word, start on the line below.
- What do we put at the end of our sentence? – full stop
‘Fred Fingers’ are used for spelling. Children hold up the hand that they do not write with. They sound out the word they are spelling and put up the correct number of fingers for the word. E.g. c-a-t = 3 sounds =3 fingers.
