Maths

This week, the children have some practise questions on adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions. (Some children have their own adapted maths homework).

English 

All children have a mixed practise GPS sheet.

Please also encourage your child to practise their spellings on Spelling Frame. We are continuing to work on words which end in 'ture' or 'sure'. Examples are adventure, treasure, future, closure, exposure, creature, measure, picture, mixture, nature, furniture, enclosure, departure, structure, signature, sculpture, disclosure, composure, manufacture (Rule 9 on Year 3 and 4 section of Spelling Frame).

Reading books should be read every day and please remind your child to quiz on finished books at home.

All homework should be completed by Friday 3rd May 2024 and if they encounter any difficulties with their HW, please remind them I am available at breaks and lunchtimes to help.

Maths

I have set the children five days worth of maths work: arithmetic and reasoning and problem-solving questions (similar to those set in February half-term).

English READING and SPELLING FRAME

Please ensure your child reads as much as possible over the Easter break - preferably every day. All reading must be recorded in their Reading Record with the date and pages read. Can I also encourage lots of quizzing on Accelerated Reader once books have been read.

I am also asking your child to use Spelling Frame as frequently as possible over the holidays and to complete any unfinished work on www.spag.com There are also maths quizzes on www.spag.com for a limited amount of time as they are free at the moment on this site.

All homework should be completed by Friday 19th April 2024 and if they encounter any difficulties with their HW, please remind them I am available at breaks and lunchtimes to help. 

I know that many of the children have revision books to work through which are of great help to them and I thank you for your support in this area.

This week, the children have questions on calculating area or perimeter which we have been working on this week or some arithmetic questions.

The children have been set an assignment on www.spag.com on Terminology as part of their general revision and retrieval of past learning in preparation for their SATs.

Please also encourage your child to practise their spellings on Spelling Frame. We are continuing to work on 'words ending ance, ence, ant, ent, ancy, ency' as it is a short week next week. (Rules 39 and 40 on Spelling Frame).

Maths

This week, the children have some arithmetic questions to answer.

English 

The children have been asked to complete a book review on their World Book Day book or their current reading book or a favourite book! Please encourage best handwriting and super presentation skills - I will be putting best examples on display.

Please also encourage your child to practise their spellings on Spelling Frame. We are working on 'adding the full range of suffixes after the letter y' (Rules 12-16 on Spelling Frame).

Spellings include: dry, play, carry, cry, happy, enjoy, story, dismay, worry, pity, merry, grumpy, destroy, terrify. They will be learning how to add suffixes including est, er, ful and the rules connected to how the spelling of the root word changes

The children will need to complete an assignment on www.spag.com on Hyphens, dashes and bullet points as we have been focusing on using the full range of punctuation in our writing.

Please also encourage your child to practise their spellings on Spelling Frame. We are continuing to work on  Rule 8 - 'ly' words this week. These are some of the words we will be working on: gently, possibly, occasionally, usually, actually, quickly, basically, publicly, happily, grumpily

This week's homework is a little different as it is half-term. 

 

The children have been given a '5 for 5' booklet in maths and reading. These comprise '5 Challenges for 5 days'. Each activity should take about 20 minutes per day and I can only ask that you encourage your child to complete as much as possible as it has been proven these activities will help your child progress in these areas. We will then mark this work in school, giving the children an opportunity to see where they are doing well and which areas they need further support or practise in. There is actually only 5 days work and 14 days to complete it! BONUS!

Maths Children will need to complete either the BIDMAS - order of operation calculations or the multiplication sheet (depending on what they have been given).

Spelling: Children are expected to work on Rule 8 on Spelling Frame (from the Year 3/4 Spelling Lists)

Geography: The children have been given some map work to complete, using four figure grid references and map symbols.

Children are also expected to read and work on TTRockstars.

 

All homework should be completed by Friday 8th December.

Maths Children will need to complete either the 'investigation' or 'maths mat' (depending on what they have been given).

English/Spelling: Children have been given a short piece of text on chocolate and some questions which cover both GPS and comprehension. 

Children are also expected to read and work on TTRockstars and Spelling Frame

They have their own passwords and usernames and our focus is words with silent letters (Rule 47)

Maths Children will need to complete the sheet on 'adding and subtracting numbers' or 'prime and square numbers' depending on which one they have been given.

English/Spelling: We will begin an investigation into adding the prefix 'over' to words.

Maths Children will need to complete the sheet on 'Factors'

English/Spelling: We will continue our investigation into words with the long and short 'i' sound and words with 'i' that acts as a 'y'

The second piece is based on our History topic - World War II. The children have been learning about bomb shelters and I have challenged them to make a model of an Anderson Shelter. I have given them a sheet which will enable them to make a basic 3D shelter and we have discussed how they could expand on this. We have looked at lots of photos of previously made models and there is a link to two videos below which may help them.

 

All homework should be completed by Friday 13th October at the latest. Please encourage your child to ask for help if they need it before Friday. I am happy to help at break or lunchtimes.

English/Spelling: We will continue our spelling investigation on words beginning with the following prefixes:

bi, aqua, auto, tele, port, trans, aero, super and the suffixes: port, ology, phobia

English HW this week is an activity based on this - they will need to complete the activity on the sheet which is just based on the prefixes: aero and auto.

English Children will complete the assignment set on www.spag.com There is a letter in their HW folder reminding them of their username and password which is the same as last year. The assignment set is 'Grammar A Year 5'.
